SAO x TLE – Riding on the ADHD Learning Curve

On 22 January 2026, in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office (SAO), the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Section (TLE) of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), organised a workshop entitled “Riding on the ADHD Learning Curve” with an aim to raise academic and administrative colleagues’ awareness towards students with ADHD.

The workshop comprised two sessions. The first session was delivered by Mr Vergo Cheng, a Registered and Accredited Educational Psychologist, who he examined the characteristics of ADHD and their effects on executive functioning. Participants learned about the common challenges experienced by students with ADHD, such as time management, organisation and concentration. During the session, Mr Cheng led a two-minute exercise in which participants recalled their morning activities to test their concentration.  He concluded by sharing practical tips on creating ADHD-friendly learning environments and curriculum designs.

Following Mr Cheng’s session on the ADHD features, the second part of the workshop featured a panel discussion moderated Dr Janice Wong, Lecturer and SEN coordinator from the School of Communication. The discussion included two undergraduate students from another local university, student Au and student Wong, shared personal experiences of living with ADHD and the coping strategies they employ to manage their studies. The students also highlighted challenges related to coursework and class attendance, particularly in area such as group projects, communication, and essay writing. It was suggested that teachers could consider adopting supportive assessment strategies, such as allowing extended time or staged deadlines, to enhance the learning experience for students with ADHD.

Equipped with practical strategies to better support neurodiverse students, participants departed with renewed motivation to foster a more inclusive educational environment.
