HSUHK Teaching and Learning Forum 2021

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) successfully organised the HSUHK Teaching and Learning Forum 2021, themed “Let’s Create a BRAINstorm in a Teacup: Dialogues with Different Educators”, on 25 May 2021. The Forum served as a cross-institutional platform for educators to share the best practices and the most updated experience of teaching and learning for the promotion of teaching excellence. Following the first Forum in 2019, the number of speakers tripled to 18 at the second Forum, featuring the 10 recipients of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards of 2018/19 and 2019/20 and 8 distinguished scholars from a wide range of local tertiary institutions. In the new normal of online teaching, it was CTL’s first-time endeavour to host the HSUHK Teaching and Learning Forum in the mixed mode.

HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards Sharing Seminar III (2020/21)

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) wrapped the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards Sharing Seminar Series (2020/21) up on 8 April 2021 (Thursday), 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at D603.

The Sharing Seminar III, titled “Service-Learning for Individuals, Society and Translation”, focused on the pedagogy of Service-Learning, an initiative at the University in early 2019. Ms Maggie Wong, the recipient of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards 2019/20, partnered with Dr Siu Sai-cheong, our invited guest speaker, for an illustration of their valuable experience in teaching with Service-Learning. Seminar on “From Online Teaching to Mixed Mode Teaching: Some Food for Thoughts”

In view of the challenges brought by the switch from face-to-face teaching to online or mixed mode teaching, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) organised the seminar, namely “From Online Teaching to Mixed Mode Teaching: Some Food for Thoughts”, on 18 March 2021 (Thursday). The seminar provided an opportunity for teachers to exchange their experience and tips for online or mixed mode teaching.

Dr Cathy Fung, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chinese, spoke in her sharing “從武俠小說看網上教學” about the inspiration she got from martial arts (Wuxia) novels for teacher-student interactions in online teaching.

HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards Sharing Seminar II (2020/21)

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) organised the second seminar of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards Sharing Seminar Series (2020/21) on 4 March 2021 (Thursday), 2:00 to 3:15 p.m., at Lee Ping Yuen Chamber (D801).

The Sharing Seminar II, titled “Business Education for Students without Business Background”, focused on business teaching. 3 recipients of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards 2019/20 from the School of Business shared their valuable experience in delivering lively lessons by combining theories and daily life, telling stories, and writing cases. HSUHK Social Innovation Competition 2021 Pitching Competition and Awards Presentation

The 12 teams’ amazing pitching brought the HSUHK Social Innovation Competition 2021 to a successful completion!

Our 31 participating students are all winners here. They, together with over a thousand students, enriched themselves through our 7 theme-based and skill-based workshops, from November 2020 to February 2021. All took home valuable insights on the development of the three targeted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, Goals 3, 11 and 12), the essence of social innovation, research techniques, proposal writing and pitching skills.

Shine a Spotlight on Students (…Subtly): Practices to Keep your Students ON-line

Engaging students might be a challenge in online lessons. Induction Programme for New Academic Staff 2020

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) organised a series of forum and seminars on 4 and 7 September 2020 as part of the “Induction Programme for New Academic Staff 2020”.

The series started with the “Forum on Creating a Welcoming, Positive and Productive Learning Environment” on the first day.  The seminars of “Outcome-based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) and Criterion-Referenced Assessment”, “Online Teaching and Learning with Emerging Technologies” and “Learning Programme Accreditation and Quality Assurance” on the second day followed.
